Huruma Special Unit is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation based in Mwanza, which was founded in 2009. It is committed to ensuring that children with disabilities receive an adequate school education and are thus optimally supported. About 70 pupils with different disabilities are taught in Hurumas primary school.



The INTERTEAM Country Programme Tanzania contributes to the improvement of access to health care and education services for children and youth with disabilities or other special needs.

Huruma is developing a new project, which aims to train teenagers with disability in various economic and social activities so that they become increasingly self-reliant members of their community and society. By offering this kind of vocational and social training Huruma will be the only organisation in Mwanza, where students with disabilities can get skilled. Therefore, we are looking for a professional who is able to conduct the following tasks:

  • Capacity Building of teachers in the fields of vocational and life skills-training
  • Identify possibilities of linking the students to the job market.
  • General management support for the school by collaborating with the director of Huruma Special Unit
  • Assist in the setting up and further development of the project
  • Especially supporting in communication, administration, reporting, fundraising and networking in order to develop the project and make it stronger


General requirements:

  • Successfully completed studies
  • Min. 2 years of professional working experience
  • Minimum age of 26 years
  • Domicile in Switzerland
  • Good physical and mental health
  • High level of social and self-competence
  • Intercultural sensitivity
  • Interest in development policy and social conditions
  • Willingness to an adapted life style

Specific requirements:

  • Degree in social work or as professional in the field of vocational and life skills training
  • Relevant work experience with teenagers with disabilities
  • Ability to transfer knowledge to teachers in the fields of vocational and life skills
  • Knowledge in the areas of administration, reporting, fundraising and networking
  • Knowledge on sign language (or willing to learn)
  • Very good knowledge of written and oral English
  • Willingness to learn the Kiswahili language
