Namibia – Quality School Education for all

Together with the Namibian Ministry of Education INTERTEAM  is essentially working on two main goals:

  1. Improving the quality of school education and increasing the integration of students  and children with learning deficiencies and special needs.
  2. Introducing practice-oriented vocational subjects enabling children and youths to be better prepared for their professional future.

Namibia has a progressive constitution, recognizing formal education as a fundamental right. About 34% of the expenditure of the overall national budget  flow to the education sector and therefore good framework conditions are in place to work on quality education for all.

Good education laws – challenging implementation

In Namibia, the tasks are to make use of the good initial situation and to provide an attractive quality education offer for all. Today, only about 21% of the students reach the secondary level. In order to improve the current situation the following is required:

  • Adequately educated and qualified teachers for integrative tuition, especially in rural areas.
  • Suitable school infrastructures and teaching materials, especially for students with impairments and special needs.
  • Professional development and introduction of vocational subjects in preparation for subsequent vocational training.

INTERTEAM supports the Namibian Ministry of Education

In partnership cooperation with the national education ministry and regional education directorates in the northeast of the country INTERTEAM helps Namibia to:

  • Improve the quality of education
  • Introduce and distribute integrative education approaches
  • Develop school subjects for professional preparation and training courses and their wide introduction

INTERTEAM offers concrete help with

  • Experienced experts who train teachers and coach school inspectors and school principals.
  • INTERTEAM initiates and supports the development and design of tuition materials.
  • INTERTEAM experts promote monitoring and evaluation in the school sector and accompany schools in the elaboration of professional orientation courses.
  • INTERTEAM specialists support the education directorates in issues related to organizational development, management and finance. This increases the efficiency of planning and budget processes considerably, ensuring that the available funding is used with clear focus. Furthermore, the local management staff is further educated with output orientation.

Within all these measures in the education sector 130.000 school-attending children and youths are benefiting in the northeastern regions of Namibia.

Deployment Region

INTERTEAM in Namibia is commited to the Northeast of the country (Kavango West and East, Zambezi and Mangetti Dune).
